Karen Stabeno M.S.,

As an Independent College Consultant and former high school counselor, Karen has been helping high school students and their parents navigate the college admission process for over 20 years.

Karen holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling, is a licensed Certified Educational Planner and is a professional member of the Higher Education Consultants Organization (HECA).  Karen has also worked as a Career Development Specialist at Pacific University, as an Adjunct Professor at the Lewis and Clark College Graduate School of Education, and as Department Chair of both the Beaverton and Sunset High School Counseling Departments, in the Beaverton School District. She has served two terms on the University of Oregon’s Counselor Advisory Board, was a member of the Oregon team of educators selected to participate in former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Conference in November 2014, and served over ten years as a member of the National College Fair Planning Committee. Karen has been published in local and national newspapers, quoted in the Oregonian’s January 2021 and January 2022 Winter Education editions.

Each year Karen travels extensively to visit colleges, meets personally with admissions personnel, and also attends national or regional conferences. She is a frequent speaker for the Beaverton School District’s college information nights on such topics as “Finding Affordable Colleges”, and “Building a Competitive College Profile”. She has also presented at regional and national conferences hosted by the Pacific Northwest College for College Admission Counselors (PNACAC) and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).

A former member of the Canadian National Track and Field Team, Karen is married and has two sons. Her husband is the author of the "ADHD Affected Athlete".
